No. 20 Fuzzy’s Vodka Team Captured Victory in 2014 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach

(SPEEDWAY, Ind.) April 14, 2015 – Advance Notes

– CFH Racing will be returning to the site of its first of three 2014 wins when the team arrives in California this weekend’s Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. Mike Conway claimed the victory in last year’s race with what was previously Ed Carpenter Racing.

– CFH Racing was formed over the offseason by the integration of Ed Carpenter Racing and Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing, creating a two-car effort to compete in the Verizon IndyCar Series.

– Josef Newgarden, driving for what was the Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing half of CFH Racing, took the lead coming out of the pits on Lap 56 of the 2014 event. Second place Ryan Hunter-Reay caused a seven-car incident when he attempted to pass Newgarden in a very tight Turn 4, ultimately ending Newgarden’s day.

– Conway was able to avoid the melee and was fourth following the accident, moving into second place on the ensuing restart. Race leader Scott Dixon was forced to pit for fuel with three laps remaining, handing the lead and the win to Conway.

– Newgarden started on the front row in the 2012 race through the downtown streets of Long Beach, Calif. in only his third career Verizon IndyCar Series event. His second place starting position remains CFHR’s best to date. The Nashville, Tenn. native qualified fourth for last year’s race.

– Luca Filippi, driver of the No. 20 Fuzzy’s Vodka Chevrolet for the road and street course events, will be making his first career start around the 1.968-mile, 12-turn street circuit.

– Filippi enters Long Beach after two top 10 finishes in as many races after a 9th place finish in the season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg and a 10th place result in last weekend’s Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana.

– Both CFHR cars earned top 10 finishes in Sunday’s event at NOLA Motorsports Park. Newgarden brought his No. 67 Hartman Oil Chevrolet home in 9th while Filippi was just behind in 10th.

– Filippi currently sits 9th in the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series point standings with 42 points. Newgarden is ranked 11th with 40 points.

– The 2015 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network at 4 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, April 19. The race will feature 80 laps with the green flag scheduled for just after 4:30 p.m.

JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 67 HARTMAN OIL CHEVROLET: “I feel good about going to Long Beach. I am happy about where we are at and I’m really excited to go there now after not being able to capitalize on our speed last weekend in New Orleans. My guys have put in so much hard work, I think they’re as prepared as they need to be to go into Long Beach and be solid. We have such great group, everyone is pushing really hard for good results. We haven’t started off the year too bad, now we just need to keep moving the bar higher!”

LUCA FILIPPI, NO. 20 FUZZY’S AWARD WINNING VODKA CHEVROLET: “I can’t wait to be in Long Beach. I have a good feeling about that place. Even though I’ve never been, there is so much history at that track between IndyCar and Formula 1 that I want to make my mark on that race. We are going to do our best to win it again this year!”
