CONRAD INDIANAPOLIS TEAMS UP WITH ED CARPENTER RACING FOR 100TH RUNNING OF THE INDIANAPOLIS 500
Ed Carpenter’s No. 20 To Carry Conrad During Race; Josef Newgarden’s No. 21 Car in Lobby Of Hotel
(SPEEDWAY, Ind.) May 26, 2016 – Conrad Indianapolis is teaming up with Indy’s own Ed Carpenter Racing for the legendary 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500. The Conrad will be on track for the 500-mile race as the luxury hotel’s logo adorns the nose of team owner and driver Ed Carpenter’s No. 20 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet. Meanwhile, downtown Indianapolis visitors can view an exact duplicate of the No. 21 Preferred Freezer Services car Josef Newgarden will start from the front row in Sunday’s race in the hotel’s lobby.
“We’re truly honored to have such a great partnership with Ed Carpenter Racing that allows us to bring iconic Indy 500 memorabilia to the hotel,” General Manager Greg Tinsley said. “We know how important this car is to the entire IndyCar community and we hope everyone will have the opportunity to see it.”
The No. 21 showcar in the Conrad’s lobby is the original DW12 chassis tested by Dan Wheldon. With the new car set to begin competition in 2012, constructor Dallara worked closely with Wheldon to develop the new chassis. Wheldon participated in numerous tests for Dallara between August and October before his untimely death during the 2011 IndyCar season finale. Dallara immediately renamed the car the DW-12 in honor of Wheldon.
Ed Carpenter Racing has returned to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a driver lineup identical to that of 2015. The trio drivers earned the nickname “Team America” last year when ECR was the only multi-car team with an all-American lineup in the Indianapolis 500. J.R. Hildebrand, driver of the No. 6 Preferred Freezer Services Chevrolet hails from Sausalito, Calif.; Newgarden is a native of Hendersonville, Tenn.; Carpenter, from Indianapolis, is a hometown favorite.
The 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 will take place this Sunday, May 29, with the green flag waving at 12:12 p.m. ET. The No. 21 showcar will remain in the lobby of the Conrad through Sunday evening.
