(SPEEDWAY, Ind.) May 8, 2015 – Qualifying Notes

– Luca Filippi led the three-car CFH Racing contingent today, qualifying 9th for the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis. Josef Newgarden will roll off 12th in tomorrow’s event while JR Hildebrand will start 15th.

– Filippi and Hildebrand were in Round 1, Group 1 of Qualifications. Hildebrand turned the 8th-fastest lap of the group with a time of 1:10.6380. Filippi advanced to the Top 12 with a 1:10:3168 lap that put him 4th quick.

– Newgarden was the lone CFHR car in Round 1, Group 2. Newgarden advanced to the Top 12 with a lap of 1:10.4283, placing him 6th.

– Filippi and Newgarden finished the ten minute Round 2 segment with the 9th and 12th fastest laps respectively, setting their starting positions for tomorrow’s 82 lap event

– Newgarden has advanced to the second round or better of qualifying in every race this season. This is the second race in a row that Filippi has advanced to Round 2.

– Of the three CFHR drivers, Hendersonvillle, Tenn. native Newgarden is the only one to have raced in last year’s inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis. Hildebrand and Filippi will be partipating in the event for the first time.

– CENTURY 21® Real Estate is joining CFHR for both events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this month as the primary partner for Newgarden, changing the car to the No. 21 and a black and gold livery. With approximately 6,900 independent offices worldwide, CENTURY 21 has the largest global network in the residential real estate industry.

– Preferred Freezer Services will again be featured on Hildebrand’s No. 6 car. The company partnered with what was previously Ed Carpenter Racing to field a car for the 27-year-old from Sausalito, Calif. in the 2014 Indianapolis 500. Preferred Freezer Services offers the most modern, state-of-the-art, full service temperature-controlled warehouses in the United States.

– Filippi will pilot the No. 20 Fuzzy’s Award Winning Vodka Chevrolet around the 2.434-mile, 14-turn road course. Yesterday’s opening practice session was the Italian’s first time on track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

– In the last race two weeks ago at Barber Motorsports Park, 24-year-old Newgarden earned his first career victory in the Verizon IndyCar Series with a commanding performance, leading a field-high 46 laps.

– With his victory, Newgarden vaulted to 4th in the Verizon IndyCar Series championship. Filippi currently sits 14th in the point standings; this will be Hildebrand’s first race of the 2015 season.

– The 2015 Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis will be broadcast live on ABC at 3:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, May 9. The race will feature 82 laps with the green flag scheduled for 3:50 p.m.

LUCA FILIPPI, NO. 20 FUZZY’S AWARD WINNING VODKA CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 9TH: “I think we made an improvement in terms of performance. We made gains so I’m pleased. I think we found something we can carry along this season to improve our qualifying performances.  I could’ve done a little better, but I think we got much closer than previous races.  If the race stays dry I know we have a consistent car.  I’m motivated and really convinced that we will have a very strong pace.”
JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 21 CENTURY 21 CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 12TH: “It was not a horrible day, we got ourselves up into the top half of the grid which is great. There was a lot of good work from the guys. We tried using two reds because we just knew we didn’t quite have the top group pace and that really helped today.  It got us into the front half of the field, but I wasn’t able to do much more after that. We’ll have to try and make a little more progress tomorrow and see what we need for the race.  It’s all about scoring good points right now.”
JR HILDEBRAND, NO. 6 PREFERRED FREEZER CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 15TH: “It was disappointing not to make the cut there. We thought that we’d have a little bit more to make up, but it turns out that we were just like a tenth of a second off from making the cut. It’s unfortunate that it ended up being that close. There are definitely still some things that I’m getting a handle on. As it’s turned out, there are quite a few things between the track, the aero kit, and the way that the cars are set up that are different than what I am used to. I was anticipating that there would be a little bit less of that coming in. So there are certainly some areas where I can make up some time. Of the three of us, Luca (Filippi) definitely found some speed, so we’ll all take a look at the changes they made and what he’s doing to try to figure out if we can all elevate to there and make another step for tomorrow. All in all though, it’s good to be in a Chevy. With the weather being a little dodgy for tomorrow, who knows what we’ll get and hopefully that will play into our favor.”
