ED CARPENTER, NO. 20 GUYCARE CHEVROLET

ED CARPENTER, No. 20 GuyCare Chevrolet: “This weekend was such a shame. The No. 20 GuyCare Chevrolet was actually really good last night into today. It’s just a terrible feeling getting two racecars torn up in less than 24 hours through really no fault of our own. We were running just fine, just a weird race, and with 20 laps to go last night and a half a lap to go today, we just get caught up in other peoples’ circumstances. What are you gonna do? The team is performing great. That’s kind of how this year has gone, we have great cars and have nothing to show for it. It’s just a shame what we’ve done to the racing. The asphalt didn’t help, there have been some decisions made that hurt the product. I hope the fans stick it out until we figure it out and come back better.”

RACE 1

• Ed Carpenter started 25th in Race 1 and moved up six positions on the start. He was then forced to pit under green flag conditions early after encountering an issue with his tires and gave up all of his forward progress. He fell two laps down to the field, but was able to make both of them back up. In the closing stages of the race, Carpenter was up seven spots from where he started to run 18th. On Lap 228 of 250, one car struck another in front of Carpenter and he was collected as part of a three-car incident. He was credited with a 20th place finish.

RACE 2

• In today’s Race 2 at Iowa Speedway, Carpenter started 26th. With limited passing throughout the entire field, the No. 20 GuyCare Chevrolet crew got to work in the pits. On Carpenter’s first stop, they helped propel him up to 22nd. Two more positions followed after his second stop and he was running 20th. On the white flag lap, Carpenter was once again collected in a multi-car accident not of his own volition. The backup No. 20 sustained heavy damage as Carpenter went up and over other cars, but he was unhurt and released from the INDYCAR Medical Unit. He was scored in 22nd.

RINUS VEEKAY, NO. 21 askROI.com CHEVROLET

RINUS VEEKAY, No. 21 Chevrolet: “Coming into this weekend, P9 was the best result of the year. But then getting a P5 and a P9 this weekend here in Iowa is really good! It’s a great points haul. After a few mechanical DNFs, this is a great way to bounce back. We’ve scored a Top 10 at every oval race so far and this is the start of the oval season as I call it! It’s so great for the No. 21 guys, having all of those mechanical issues was terrible. And it’s really because of them we moved forward in the race because of those great stops! Big shoutout to the whole ECR crew. On to Toronto now!”

RACE 1

• Rinus VeeKay qualified 14th for Race 1 of the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend doubleheader, but started 13th as another driver had a grid penalty. He made his first of two pit stops under yellow on Lap 84 and quick work by the No. 21 askROI.com crew gained him three positions. As one of the only cars who was able to execute passes on restarts, he used each one to his advantage and climbed into the Top 5. On the final restart, he held off hard-charging competitors to hold onto 5th and earn his first Top 5 finish since Mid-Ohio 2022.

RACE 2

• Rinus VeeKay started Race 2 from the 15th starting position, but was shuffled back to 17th at the start. Conserving his tires, he stayed in line. The No. 21 askROI.com crew continued their stellar work, helping VeeKay climb up to 12th. He was able to execute one on-track pass in the closing laps, then gained two positions with the last-lap incident that collected his teammate and team owner Carpenter. VeeKay earned his second Top 10 finish in less than 24 hours with a 9th place today.
